today’s rant…well, mini rant of sadness

okay…does anyone else see the signs that we could be headed where germany was after wwI?  when the economy was depressed the country began to cannibalize itself.  anyone that wasn’t aryan was a target…and anyone who spoke out and up for those suffering oppression.  foreigners were blamed for economic woes, not just jews but jews were the propaganda machine’s favorite source of inspiration.  jews were seen as taking jobs and opportunities away from victimized aryans once things were tight and nothing was improving.  i’m hinting at arizona and the surprising number of supporters i hear talking and see putting political advertisements on the telly.  speaking with someone this week, i asked them ‘what if we change one aspect of the law in arizona and replace mexicans with jews. does that change how you view it?’.  of course, after an uncomfortable silence, they told me it was different. i asked how and received as a reply ‘it just is’.  the whole thing’s disturbing to me. i asked that same person how come in the 80’s and 90’s, no one was this concerned. no answer.  i answered and said because the economy was fine and i’m pretty sure it wasn’t mexican immigrants that sold bundled risks that transferred hands numerous times, each time portions of the bundle containing the riskiest bits getting larger until POP - the whole thing imploded. and i was also pretty sure that even now, no one wants to do the work that most illegals do.. hell, no one wants to do the work most of the legal immigrants do.

 and now, paul rand, a senator, is trying to get support to get the civil rights act repealed, believing businesses should be able to discriminate on the basis of race. we’re about to enter some dark ages.  in the last five years, we’ve engaged in practices directly oppostional to the geneva convention - which we helped author and held other ‘less civilized’ nations to, we’re criminalizing being mexican and now we want to open the door, just a crack, to let business owners decide who their customers can be. from there, it’s hiring, renting, educational segregation, a real de-evolution for the USA.  well, let me go back a few more years and talk about the overreach of the patriot act and the fact that most americans swallowed it like a magic pill.  these are all doors that are being cracked open and once a door is cracked open, it’s easier to open a bit more, wait for the public tolerance to adjust, then push a bit more. and…if tolerance is slow, well, just keep everyone frightened and misinformed and they’ll speed up.

it’s depressing, disheartening and disturbing. the worst part is…a lot of americans don’t see any of the irony in any of it, or the way any of these things mirror anything else from history.  sorry for being debbie downer.  it’s a pressure valve and i just had to open it for a minute.
